Current mood: excited

Thursday May 15, 2008 Ministry Hallway

Back at the Ministry after this scene from: Snapelike’s “The Diary of a DeathEater Whore” about a third of the way down the page. Adrian returns to the Ministry after a bit of afternoon delight.

Roger's eyes narrowed, catching a hint of werewolf on the air. Faint, subtle, but undeniably… mixed with sex. Ministry employees knew to keep out of Head Auror Davies’ way, even when he wasn’t frowning and his eyes weren’t glowing the bright golden yellow characteristic of an angry… or excited… werewolf.

He was so not in the mood for this, already late for his briefing with the Senior Aurors. More and more every day, he longed for his days as a mere Squad Leader… on the Night Watch… in the quiet and dark. Here now, in daylight, the sounds were too loud, the lighting too bright, and the sodding smells too aromatic by far!

He caught sight of Pucey coming toward him down the same hall. Proud pureblood perfect Pucey. Roger normally stayed far out of his way. He’d never let Pucey know, never give the man that much… over him. And wouldn’t Pucey laugh if he knew? They were too different. Pucey, supporting the pureblood party line since before the war. Davies of mixed heritage, though the Minister had managed to find (or pay someone to find) some old imagined glory in the Davies line. Pucey on top of the world, helping mold Ministry policy as a favor to the Minister; Roger slogging though his own weight in paperwork every other week, just a working stiff.

Though a magically powerful and darkly strong working stiff after all these years. Maybe he could risk a smirk Pucey’s way as they passed. It was past time to let schoolboy bygones be bygones.

Quicker than thought could become motion, for a mere human, Roger had Pucey pinned to the wall, one hand firmly holding his neck, the other restraining a bicep while straining up to catch the scent at his collar. He was several inches shorter than the man, but there was no doubting who was physically stronger.

“That’s Lupin, isn’t it?” Roger growled slowly, purposely letting his warm breath tickle Pucey’s ear, completely oblivious to the Ministry workers gone still in shock, watching. How dare Lupin touch what was…?

But no.

Roger refused to bow down to the inner wolf, to play the pack games, participate in the pissing contests that all the werewolves of London tried to drag him into. He was human. A wizard. Head Auror for Merlin’s sake.

Then what exactly are you doing to Adrian Pucey?

Adrian's mind was anywhere other than on whatever people he might encounter in these old dusty hallways, the Ministry almost becoming a second home to him these days. He spent far too much time here, and far too little time at home... and even less on pleasure.

Pleasure that could cost dearly these days, if you had acquired tastes. Which Adrian certainly had, in more sense than one. Tastes he had sated not long ago, and was still feeling a relaxed ease and warm calm inside that came with a bloody good fuck.

A calm and ease that vanished like dew in the morning sun as he with a startled gasp suddenly found himself pinned forcefully to the wall, the papers in his hand fluttering to the floor in an unholy mess.

But what was truly a mess was the way his heart and lungs literally had stopped working for painful long seconds while he found himself undeniably and almost painfully restrained, and scented as if he were prey.

Davies...

His lungs and heart started working again, although at a rate that was dizzying, and the hot gust of air against his ear, the growled words, sent a strong shiver through his body.

Control yourself! Adrian mentally chided himself, fighting against both the urge to flee... and to fight. He wouldn't let himself be intimidated by that sodding Ravenclaw, even if he were a werewolf.

Still somewhat out of breath, which was terribly vexing, Adrian - obviously trying to scrape together whatever poise he had left (which was near to none, something he was 'sure' Davies could sense) - drawled "What is it to you, Davies?"

Nothing. Everything. Roger wanted to spit out the insult held ready behind his teeth for all those so-called high class Death Eaters who visited Lupin’s house of ill repute. So you have to pay for sex?

But he knew Pucey didn’t have to pay for it. Knew the women were lined up panting after him. And why shouldn’t they be? Pucey had it all: money, power, close ties to the Minister. His star was rising in the wizarding world. He was tall, handsome to dostraction. He exuded that thrum of magic that only the truly gifted had. And he was tinged with the Dark Arts like a fine wine was laced with flavor notes.

Roger licked his lips, salivating, hungering for the sweetness right here in his hands. Pucey’s scent held the sweetness of bitter dark chocolate, of a 12 year old Scotch, or a hand-rolled Cuban Salazar cigar. His fragrance so heady, Roger could taste it through his open mouth as he breathed another hot breath on Pucey’s neck.

Long seconds dragged by while Roger lost himself in Pucey’s scent, now tinged with … not exactly fear… more like … a thrill. Well, no one would accuse Pucey of being afraid of danger. Certainly not a man who went to werewolf for …

“None of my business, actually,” Roger said, his growl softening to a purr, “as long as it’s not Greyback.” Only, he’d just made it his business with this public display. Which was exactly why he always avoided Pucey like the plague.

He stepped back releasing Pucey and realizing what a Merlin-be-damned fool he’d just made of himself.

In front of the whole Ministry!

His finger twitched. “Pack! Accio!” he grunted and Pucey’s papers swiftly righted themselves and flew to his hand. It was an impressive stack. Roger wasn’t the only one approaching 30 and staggering under the Minister’s paperwork.

No, Adrian wasn't afraid. He knew without a doubt that Davies or any of the other 'tame' werewolves wouldn't dare do anything at the Ministry. Not even Greyback...

The mention of Greyback as a possible bed-partner was appaling enough to draw Adrian's focus together after the hot breaths and hot pressure against him had efficiently scattered it. His nose wrinkled in disgust as he faced Davies.

He paid the papers no heed, as he scrutinized Davies' expression, his eyes... and the feral glow in them. It was still Roger Davies though, his favourite antagonist at Hogwarts, his primary goal for pranks and ridicule and the occasional well placed body slams on a broom, concealed as not-too-accurate feints. If it hadn't been for the Ravenclaw's werewolf status and talent, he'd been discarded like all the other halfblood scum.

"Then you should keep your filthy paws off me, Davies, and turn your attentions back to Greyback, who I'm sure will react much more favourably..." Adrian's heart was still beating uncomfortably fast in his chest, his annoyance with Davies mixed with a disturbing and hot feeling of the familiar excitement mostly connected to his encounters with Lupin. Something that had no place in concern with Davies, of all people.

Then why are you reacting like this?

Interesting. Pucey’s words were straight forward enough, and so was his snarl of disgust. But his scent and the slight widening of his eyes, told a different story, a much more interesting story of excitement and desire… maybe even need. Which was why the man went to Lupin.

Perhaps.

Roger snorted softly while he offered Pucey his papers back. The way he’d turned Roger’s comment back on him convinced Roger he was slipping and needed to end this unfortunate meeting.

“Greyback can go hang. I was concerned that he might have hurt you.” The lie sounded lame even to his own ears.

Madness took over Roger’s limbs again and he stepped close shoving the handful of papers into Pucey’s midsection. “That he might have forced you.” His voice was back to the low growl. Then softer, mindful of their small audience, “But Lupin wouldn’t force you. You sought him out.”

This talk of Greyback and Lupin tightened his stomach muscles. Both alphas. All alphas if Roger included himself, which he’d better if Pucey was going to become the object of a werewolf pissing contest. “Go clean yourself for fuck’s sake. If Greyback scents you, he’ll make an issue of it.”

Good boy. Throw this all off onto Greyback. And proper Aurorly concern for the pureblood’s safety.

Adrian was almost forced to step back at the force of how Davies' had shoved the papers at him. The man was lying, that much was very clear to Adrian. He wasn't concerned about something like that. He knew sure as hell Greyback wouldn't dare touch a pureblood of Adrian's standing. But why was he lying?

And why the hell was he persisting in this, in front of others... making a fool of them both? And why the hell did Davies' growl send another shiver down Adrian's spine?

Because it's fucking sexy, that's why... that's why you seek out Remus, and love it when he growls like that... Adrian forced those thoughts right out of his head again.

"It seems you already made an issue out of it, Head Auror Davies, So perhaps you should go on ahead and warn your Greyback to stay away from me." Adrian said in an equally low but still acerbic tone of voice, purposefully using the man's title to remind him of his place here.

"I have better things to do than caring about werewolf sensibilities." Finally he snagged the papers out of Davies' hand. "I reckon so do you."

My hellcat has some fire, Roger thought to himself as a slow smile spread across his face. Not that Pucey was his… anything. But the way the man reacted to Roger’s ridiculous posturing, with a shiver, with a quickening breath and pulse, made Roger want to find out… if maybe… Pucey could be his… something.

Not going to happen. The man was perfectly correct, Roger had just made an issue of … Pucey’s ownership… guardianship sounded better. Pucey was above werewolf games, well above. But what if he didn’t want to be? What if Pucey wanted to be the prize in a werewolf struggle for dominance?

“I’ll do that,” Roger purred with confidence. He was ready to give Greyback a good thumping... Lupin too, though that would never happen. Lupin was too protected, and too smart.

So was Roger. Most days. At present, not so much. It didn’t matter if Pucey wanted to stir up trouble among the wizarding werewolves. Malfoy absolutely didn’t want it, had oh so carefully orchestrated their respective positions and duties and loyalties and boundaries. The three of them, Greyback, Lupin, and himself were neatly compartmentalized. Greyback the Minister’s favored executioner, (Roger would never dignify what the wolf did by naming him assassin), Lupin the Minister’s lovely prized pet, and himself the growling watchdog.

“Sorry, caring about werewolf sensibilities goes with the job description. As does pureblood sensibilities.” Roger took a step back along with a deep deep breath, though scenting Pucey entagled with Lupin underlain with the scent of spunk hardly helped him regain his own composure. “Too fucking close to the moon,” he growled, then said in a more normal tone. “I most humbly beg your forgiveness Lord Pucey. I will make sure there is no issue.”

There it was again, the scenting. Adrian might not be an Auror or trained in observational techniques as the Auror before him, but there was more to this encounter than met the eye, and more to Davies' actions.

Surely not that...

The mocking title of Lord, which Adrian was nowhere near achieving, at least the wizarding equivalent, made him snort softly. He resisted the urge to straighten out his clothes or stepping back, so he held his ground as Davies put a little distance between them.

"Maybe you should put some more effort into controlling your own werewolf sensibilities this close to the moon, instead of letting them control you." The breathy quality was thankfully gone from his voice, as was the heat inside him, which brought back his selfconfident arrogance full force, both in his posture and tone. "And I certainly expect there to be no more issues of this kind!"

Roger’s eyes narrowed as Pucey’s manner returned to the all too familiar poncing berk Roger expected. This was the Pucey he remembered from Hogwarts, not that excited, exciting, breathless prey he’d become at Roger’s touch.

Dream on wolfboy, he told himself, while leaning forward to snarl, “Then don’t wander around reeking of werewolf this close to the full moon!”

The truth was, he wasn’t reeking at all. There was barely a faint trace of Lupin on him, only the difference between a careless cleaning spell and a careful bath, really. It was Roger’s personal attraction to Pucey that tipped the balance. A personal attraction he cursed whenever he crossed paths. A personal attraction that should never be acted on. Would never be acted on again.

“Good day!” he exclaimed and stalked off, glowering toward the conference room.

The deep and personal satisfaction of rattling Davies successfully almost overshadowed the tiny rush of something that once more ran through Adrian at the snarled words... the expression on Davies' face.

Adrian knew he was clean. He was always very thorough if he was going back to work after visiting Remus. Whatever Davies could smell would have to be so faint, it had to be something else that had made him react like this. Something about Adrian.

"Good day, Davies," Adrian replied cooly, watching the man's back. The whole situation was decidedly odd. Because he doubted the man was actually attracted to Adrian Pucey. That would make no sense. It had to be a werewolf thing... territories or something like that. But he was no werewolf's 'territory'. He might pay Remus Lupin to fuck him, because there was just nothing like it, the sex with that man... But nobody owned Adrian Pucey but himself. And perhaps Lucius Malfoy, to the same extend as the Minister 'owned' all at the Ministry, and most of those outside it as well.

Adrian decided not to waste more time nor thought on the incident and turned away to continue towards his office. But his mind - ever helpful - refused to follow that decision...

What if it is attraction? Adrian shook his head at the thought, and at the touch of interest it sparked deep inside him, in dark places he usually avoided.

“Hallibash, report!” Roger ordered banging the door shut and privacy wards up with an enthusiastic burst of magic. He refused to let the incident with Pucey distract him any longer. He didn’t have sodding time for it.

Everything seemed to be heating up as spring progressed toward summer. The return of Severus Snape had stirred an unholy hornet nest among the Death Eaters, Ministry minions, the Wizengamot, the Board of Governors, the news rags, the entire sodding wizarding world.

But Pucey had sought out and paid Lupin for sex. Roger already knew this. It was smelling it that had sent him right on over the edge. He knew all about Lupin’s ‘House’ as well as Livery’s potion ring, and Daily’s gambling houses. Malfoy had convinced Roger of his own philosophy of well-ordered crime. Why waste Ministry resources policing small time crooks when the more powerful bosses would do it for free. Crime, like death, and dark magic, we would always have with us. Better to use the Auror force for other things.

Merlin knew, Malfoy was a leader; brilliant in politics, in scheming and cunning, in planning as well as execution, not to mention charismatic. Roger didn’t particularly care for his isolationist policies, but compared to the chaos of Fudge and the Voldemort years, he knew Malfoy would go down in history as one of the most stable and successful Ministers of Magic.

Hallibash droned on, whining about the late night stake out Roger had ordered. Roger let him. The disparaging looks of his comrades would be enough censure.

Pucey sought out and paid for sex with a werewolf. And had very much enjoyed it. Did it regularly. Roger was a werewolf. A lone, mateless werewolf, hopelessly attracted to dark magical power, the prestige of pureblood lineage that equated to high social standing that equated to power; attracted to a tall, good-looking, fit bloke who just happened to hate his guts, despise his heritage… Bah! It was hopeless. He’d always known that, known that no werewolf would ever be a proper mate for a pureblood and that he would never be friends with Pucey.

Yet Pucey went to Lupin… not the boys at Lupin’s House… Lupin himself.

Roger’s mind was not going to let this alone… not till after the full moon had passed. He remembered the first time he’d gone clubbing after his first transformation. Flushed with success at his job and Malfoy’s favor gaining him an instant promotion to Squad Leader… it had been a bit of a let down to realize that all the girls who greeted him so nicely had no intention of going home with him. After giving him a dance in exchange for a drink, they’d drifted off, back to their girlfriends or over to other blokes.

He hadn’t repeated that mistake.

He’d decided then that the Beltane night of his attack had been a not so subtle message to him from the gods and goddesses. It was his first time with a man, a boy really, a 7th year about to graduate Hogwarts. He couldn’t remember the boy’s face anymore. He remembered it was his first time putting into practice the things he’d heard and read about in curiosity. He’d thought it was all for the boy. Gods alone knew how many girls he’d had the pleasure of deflowering.

Later that night he’d been attacked, infected and turned. A week later he set about molding his Auror squad into the finest in the wizarding world. A month later he decided he might as well be gay because he wasn’t getting any pussy anymore, and proceeded to shamelessly fuck his way around gay muggle night clubs.

At first he was amazed at how easy it was, at how many men both straight and gay wanted to be dominated and fucked. Then he was just glad.

Now he was curious again. Dammit Pucey! Why couldn’t you just stay in your world and leave me to mine?

The scent of other human werewolves was a bit of a comfort on this most trying of days. Roger stood behind a man he only saw here, in the bowels of the ministry, near the prison cells. For five days before the full moon, every registered werewolf came to receive their dose of the Wolfsbane Potion. For the first year, strictly. Other arrangements could be made after that. Roger’s mother helped with the brewing now and set aside his especially. He smiled to see his name in her handwriting on the vial.
Later, at his flat off Knockturn… because who would rent to a werewolf? Even the Head Auror? Roger opened the bottom drawer of his jewel chest and dug around till he found it. Godl winked as the earring dangling on its chain spun in the light. The tooth of the wolf that bit him, the right canine, only two inches long, straight, pointing down. He’d worn it quite proudly that first year, amused at the speculation on how he’d acquired it, though no one dared ask. Later, when Auroring became his life, the tooth didn’t’ matter any more. He didn’t’ need it to impress or intimidate anyone.
Roger put the earring in his ear without examining too closely his reasons why. If Pucey was impressed and Lupin was intimidated by the fact he’d killed his maker, well, Roger wouldn’t complain. Besides, he looked good in gold.

I always assume they are two years older than Harry, so they would have graduated June of 96... But Adrian has that weird October birthday.

So yeah, Adrian's year with his grandmother could have been fall of 96 through spring of 97, or longer. Or if he went right after Hogwarts in Spring of 96 through Spring of 98, it could have been two years he spent with her.

I"m really not fussed with the details, especially since this is someone else's AU. :-)

I"m hung up on whether to go with 2008 or jump to 2009!

Oh duh yes, that's true LOL

Okay, so I'm going to edit the years a little in the post, and make Adrian spend two years in India. Makes more sense really (then he also avoids the fuss about the war and such LOL) He went straight after Hogwarts, and left Hogwarts at the same time as Roger. So Adrian will have to be ½ year older than him.

whether or not to jump directly to 2009 depends on your plot *g* do you want to latch onto the events around the Diary, or do you want something new? :D I'm go either way.

OK. After literally months of thinking about it, the events of 2008 are pivotal, so let's stick with that for now. (Though the complexity makes me want to jump a year!) Snape comes back to the wizarding world and shakes up the Death Eaters, kills Greyback and frees Lupin from his contract. So all his clients either go to other whores, or... not.

Roger has had this slip in the Ministry hallway with Pucey. This gets back to Malfoy... and Malfoy suddenly starts assigning Roger to be Pucey's bodyguard.

Some of the Eastern European countries are strong on dark arts... notably Bulgaria, but others also. Some like to challenge a visiting ambassador... and now I'm getting plot bunnies... but I must whack at the rose bush!
